The world,s largest car maker, Volkswagen, faces new criticism for reports that it has helped finance the experiments in which monkeys and people have breathed exhaust fumes from their cars, according to the French press.
Volkswagen is "clearly distinguishable from all forms of animal abuse”, said the automotive giant after the US newspaper “New York Times” wrote that an American institute entrusted to it by German automobile companies has conducted tests on 10 monkeys in 2014.
However, Volkswagen,s awkward position worsened in the beginning of 2018, after the German newspaper “Sueddeutsche Zeitung” reported that 25 healthy human beings had also been tested for the effects of inhalation of toxic nitrogen oxides.
